Two Fresno State events planned for César Chávez observance

The César Chávez Day holiday will be marked by events this month at California State University, Fresno.

The holiday is celebrated statewide March 31 when many state offices, including the Fresno State campus, are closed. Chávez, who founded and led the United Farm Workers union, was born on that date in 1927. He died in 1993.

The César Chávez Education Conference will be held 4-7 p.m. March 20 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. March 21 on campus. For more information, contact Dr. Laura Alamillo at 559.278.0280.

A campus community observance will be held March 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will include the traditional garlanding of the Chávez monument in the Peace Garden, just north of the Henry Madden Library. The event includes entertainment and art exhibits. For more information, contact Ambar Alvarez at ambara@csufresno.edu.

Both events are free and open to the public. Details will be available at www.FresnoStateNews.com.
