Preview Day is Saturday
(March 28) at California State University, Fresno and nearly 4,000
students and parents have registered to attend – a record-setting number
that has prompted the event to be moved to the Save Mart Center.
Last year, about 1,900 participants attended and the doubling may be
from students wanting to guarantee their spot in classes as the
university moves to limit admission due to the state’s financial crisis.
“There appears to be a huge surge in popularity of the university as
shown by our Preview Day crowd increasing by more than 100%,” said
Bernie Vinovrski, assistant vice president of enrollment services.
“We expect to enroll 2,800 first time freshmen for fall 2009 and it is
starting to look like Fresno State will not be able to accommodate any
of the 500-plus students on our wait list. Students who attend Preview
Day will have the opportunity that day to confirm their enrollment and
reserve their place in the freshman class,” Vinovrski said.
Preview Day begins with registration at the northwest entrance of the
Save Mart Center. It will include a Student Services information fair
with answers to questions about financial aid, career services, housing,
etc. from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Court, south of the Kennel
Bookstore. Information workshops on admissions, financial aid and
student success will be held during the day and campus and housing tours
will be available.
The financial aid and student success sessions are drawing the most
interest.
