Social work conference March 27 examines spiritual, mental health

The Wellness & Spirituality: Application to Practice Conference, presented by the Department of Social Work at California State University, Fresno, will explore the linkages among spirituality, religion, health, mental health and wellness.

The conference is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 27 at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center, 2233 Ventura Ave., in downtown Fresno.

Dr. Dennis Haynes, a Fresno State alumnus who is interim dean of the College of Public Policy at the University of Texas at San Antonio, will deliver the keynote address. Since earning his Master of Social Work degree at Fresno State, Haynes’ career has included more than 20 years of practice in medical social work, individual, couples and family counseling and child welfare services.

Haynes will join Wanda McIntosh, LCSW, and Iris Person, MSW, professors in the Department of Social Work Education at Fresno State, in conducting two workshops during the conference.

Dr. Benjamin Cuellar, outgoing dean of Fresno State’s College of Health and Human Services, also will speak.

Registration is open to the public. The fee is $90, general admission; $30 for Fresno State students; and $15 for Continuing Education Unit members.
