Armenian genocide commemorative events planned

The Armenian Students Organization and Armenian Studies Program at California State University, Fresno are planning a week of activities to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The award-winning documentary feature film “Screamers” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in the East Engineering Building, Room 191. Admission is free.

“Screamers,” broadcast on the BBC and later released theatrically in America in 2006, examines at the history of genocide from the Holocaust and the Armenian, Cambodian, Bosnian, Rwandan genocides through Darfur today.

A campus march and vigil will follow the showing of the movie. Those gathered will walk to the model of the Armenian Martyrs Monument in the Free Speech Area at Fresno State, where a brief ceremony will take place.

At noon on Friday, April 24, campus activities will commemorate the 94th anniversary of the genocide. The Arax Armenian Dancers of Fresno will be featured in a program of genocide-themed dances. Fresno State students and students from the Keyan Armenian School will offer readings and remarks.
