The 2009 Annual Law Day
Conference will be held at California State University, Fresno from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15.
The event, which is free and open to the public in the University
Student Union and McLane Hall, will familiarize Fresno State students
and the local community to resources needed to get into law school. It
affords participants who would not otherwise be able to attend a law
school out of town an opportunity to receive information about applying
and financial aid.
Participating law schools are San Joaquin College of Law in Fresno,
Chapman, UC Hastings, California Western, Monterey Whittier, Pepperdine,
Western State, UC-Irvine, and Santa Clara Law.
The conference has been held at Fresno State since 1978 and is sponsored
by Chicanos in Law (the oldest pre-law organization on campus), Phi
Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International and Associated Students, Inc.
Daniel Cisneros, Chicanos in Law president, said there will be featured
guest speakers from different areas of law including public interest,
criminal and private, and a mock law class.
Events in McLane Hall, Room 281, include:
-
An admissions workshop
from 9-9:50 a.m. Topics are writing a personal statement and general
law school admissions advising.
-
The “Mock Law Class” from
10-10:50 a.m., hosted by Dr. Richard M. Cartier, a professor at San
Joaquin College. Participants will engage in legal discussions,
learning and debating legal issues and defending positions.
-
“Careers in Law” from 2-3
p.m., a question-answer session featuring attorneys, judges and
others in legal professions from public service, criminal law and
civil law sectors.
The Law School Resource Fair
will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the south patio of the USU
Balcony. Law school representatives provide free applications,
pamphlets, information on student life and other pertinent materials.
