Shihab Nye, an internationally-acclaimed, award-winning poet and
children's author, will be on campus at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 23,
for a reading, reception and book signing.
The event, which is free and opens to the public, will be at the
Satellite Student Union.
"Nye, an Anglo-Palestinian American, is both a poet and a peaceweaver
who brings the human community together," said Dr. Samina Najmi, English
professor who is coordinating the event.
Her collections of poems and essays include Different Ways to Pray, 19
Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East, and Never in a Hurry.
She is the author of Habibi and editor of many anthologies of poems,
including This Same Sky: A Collection of Poems from around the World and
Is This Forever, or What?
Nye is the winner of four Pushcart Prizes, the Jane Addams Children’s
Book Award and the Paterson Poetry Prize.
The event is sponsored by the Young Writers’ Conference, Students of
English Studies Association and San Joaquin Literary Association, all
affiliated with the Department of English; and by the Henry Madden
Library and the College of Arts and Humanities.
Relaxed parking will be available in Lots “P” (Maple and Barstow) and
