Renowned
children’s author Katherine Paterson will lecture on “The Stories of Our
Lives,” April 17 at California State University, Fresno.
Paterson is best known for her books “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Jacob
Have I Loved,” each which won the John Newbery Medal, given by the
America Library Association for the year’s most distinguished
contribution to American literature for children. Both novels have been
made into movies.
She will speak at 7:30 p.m. at the John Wright Theatre on the Fresno
State campus. The event is sponsored by the Arne Nixon Center for the
Study of Children’s Literature at Fresno State.
She co-wrote the book and lyrics for “The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck,” a
musical play. New this year is her book “The Day of the Pelican”
(Clarion).
She is also the recipient of the 2006 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for
children’s literature, given by the Swedish government, and the 1998
Hans Christian Andersen Award, chosen by the International Board on
Books for Youth.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in
university lots near the theatre. Seating is limited and available on a
first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are required by phone at
