Dr. Miguel A. Pérez, a health
science professor at California State University, Fresno, has won the
2009 American Association for Health Education (AAHE) Professional
Service to Health Education award.
Pérez was recognized for his service to the AAHE, professional
contributions to health education, and service and leadership within the
profession.
He served as a member of the AAHE’s program review and session review
committees, on the board of associate editors and the board of associate
directors. He also has chaired the organization’s multicultural
involvement committee and was the co-editor for the first book on
cultural competence and healthy education, “Cultural Competence in
Health Education and Health Promotion”
Pérez is the recipient of three Fulbright awards. In 2000 he conducted
drug research at the Universidad El Bosque School of Medicine in Bogotá.
In 2005, he worked on AIDS prevention in South Africa. And in 2007, he
was at the Universidad del Norte in Colombia, teaching a seminar for
health-care practitioners and educators and developing strategies
related to adolescent sexual health issues.
The AAHE advances the health science profession by serving health
educators and other professionals who strive to promote better health
for all people. It serves professionals in a variety healthcare,
community/public agencies, businesses, schools (Pre-K-12) and
institutions of higher learning.
