Former Fresno State official, retired USAF colonel services April 16

Members of the Fresno State Air Force ROTC will serve as pallbearers for retired U.S. Air Force Col. Edward F. Roddy at services 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at St. Paul Newman Center across from the campus.

Col. Roddy died April 6 at age 89. He was a Fresno State alumnus and former administrator who is credited with establishing the Campus Safety Program throughout the entire California State University System.

Col. Roddy will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on July 6, 2009.

As a World War II combat pilot, he witnessed the second Atomic Bomb detonation in Nagasaki

After retiring from the Air Force he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Fresno State while serving as the university’s Environmental Health and Safety officer. He retired after 10 years as an administrator and instructor.
