Summer programs for children start in June

Summer programs for children will be returning to California State University, Fresno. Academic and athletic programs, camps and clinics will be offered throughout the summer for elementary, middle and high school students.

Academic-oriented summer programs will be offered for children interested in veterinary science, biotechnology, fashion and acting, and sports camps will teach the fine points of football, baseball, basketball, soccer and volleyball.

Science camps (call 559.278.0333)

The Division of Continuing and Global Education – Extension Programs will offer Science Adventures day camps from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday for children in K-6 grades.

Camp sessions are:

 

June 15-19, Gizmo's Robot Factory - Visalia: Children build their own robots and craft a robot tool kit and creating their own motorized invention.  NOTE this camp will be held at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia in Rooms 3 and 4.  Class number: 50180


June 22-24, Gizmo's Robot Factory: Children build their own robots and craft a robot tool kit and creating their own motorized invention.  NOTE this camp will be held on the Fresno State campus in the Education building, Room 140.  Class number: 50181

 

July 6-10, Powerful Planet: Children will learn how reusable energy is important to the earth while using solar energy.  Participants also will look at the environment and what causes some animals to become endangered. Class number: 50182


July 13-July 17, Weather Watchers & Storm Chasers: Children will learn about exciting weather phenomena and make their own weather instruments so they can be amateur meteorologists. Class number: 50184

 

July 28-Aug. 1, Space and Rocketry ’09: Participants’ voyage of discovery includes exploring secrets of Mars, making a Mars rover, creating telescopes and charting constellations. Class number: 50183

Registration before May 15 is $289 per child per camp. Discounts are available for multiple camps per family; registration after May 15 is $299. Fee includes a T-shirt, Friday lunch and admission to the Downing Planetarium on campus.


 

Summer Vet Camp (call 559.278.0333)

For students in grades 7-9. Veterinary experts will provide hands-on experiences, live animals, technology demonstrations and labs, and explain how to prepare for a career in veterinary medicine.

The camp runs 8 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday from July 13-17.  Registration fees are $245 and include all instruction, materials, laboratory supplies, take-home suture kit, stethoscope, back pack and scrub shirt for each camper.  Registration is recommended before June 22. Class number: 50211

The Creative Institute: Fashion and Acting (call 559.278.0333)

For students in grades 7-10.  Students will study film, create their own fashions, develop a photographic portfolio of their designs and participate in a variety of acting exercises based on their designs that will lead to a final day showcase of all their work.

The camp runs 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.  Monday-Friday from June 22-26.  Registration fees paid by May 22 are $295; $305 after May 22.  Class number: 50056

Biotechnology Camp (call 559.278.0333)

For students in grades 10-12.  This summer camp will allow students interested in science to learn about the techniques used in biotechnology and explore its career path. Students will gain hands-on experience in biological techniques and develop critical thinking skills while earning one unit of university credit.


The camp runs 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Friday from July 20-24. Registration fees paid by June 5 are $279; $305 after June 5. A $60 fee for the additional unit will be charged.  Class number: 50162

Football camps (call 559.278.3015)

Individual Skills and Techniques Camp will be June 7-8 for students entering grades 9-12. The cost is $300 for campers who stay overnight and $200 for campers who commute; increasing by $25 after May 1.

Baseball Camps (call 559.278.2178)

The program will offer three camps to elementary, middle and high school students. The camps are designed to offer participants training and instruction in the fundamentals of baseball by Fresno State baseball coaches. 

Camp sessions are:

July 14-17; 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Jr. Bulldog Skills & Games Day Camp: Players, ages 7-12, will work with the Fresno State baseball coaching staff on improving their skills in pitching, catching, infield and outfield play, hitting and base running.  Camp registration is $225.

 

Every Friday in July; 5:30-9 p.m., Jr. High Elite Camp: Participants in grades 7-9, will work with Fresno State baseball coaches on improving their skills.  Each session will consist of batting practice and defensive skill session as well as a camp game on Pete Beiden Field.  Camp registration is $200.

 

Every Wednesday in July, 5:30 - 9 p.m., High School Elite Camp: Players in grades 9-12 will work to improve their defensive and offensive skills. Participants also play a camp game on Pete Beiden Field.  Camp registration is $200.

Fresno State Men’s Basketball Camp (call 559.389.1933)

This program will host a camp for boys in grades 3-12. The camp runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday-Friday June 22-26. Registration fees are $125 and include a camp shirt, basketball and a session with Fresno State players.


Fresno State Women’s Basketball Camp (call 559.278.6061)

This program hosts two camp sessions. The first, will run from 9 a,m. - noon, Monday-Friday June 9-13. Session I is from 9 a.m. to noon for grades K-6. Session II is from 1 to 4 p.m. for grades 7-12.

Soccer Academy (call 559.278.8302)

This program is designed to provide a safe environment for the best soccer instruction for all players. The academy takes place at Fresno State’s training facilities and is staffed by current and past Fresno State men’s and women’s athletes and coaches.

Camp dates are:

  • Session 1, June 16-19 - Boys and girls ages 4-9, 9 a.m.-noon.

  • Session 2, June 16-19 - Boys 10-15, 5-8 p.m.

  • Session 3, June 16-19 - Girls 10-15, 5-8 p.m.

  • Session 4, July 7-10 - Boys and girls 4-9, 9 a.m.-noon.

  • Session 5, July 28-30 – Girls’ team camp

Registration is $140 per camper before June 1; $150 after.


Women’s Volleyball Camp (call 559.278.5051)

The program hosts two camp sessions. The first, will run from 9 a.m. - noon, Thursday-Saturday, July 23-25. Session I is from 9 a.m. to noon for both boys and girls aspiring to be volleyball players. Session II, the Boys and Girls Setting & Attacking Clinic, is from 2 to 5 p.m.
