Five alumni educators honored

Five California State University, Fresno alumni will be honored tonight, May 15, as educators of the year by the Association of Mexican American Educators (AMAE) of Fresno.

The Dia del Maestro Educator of the Year Recognition and Scholarship Awards Banquet will be at 6 p.m. at Tornino’s Banquets in Fresno. The program begins at 7:30.

AMAE’s Special Recognition Award will be presented to Valerie F. Davis, president of the Fresno Unified School District Board of Trustees. She graduated in 1983 from the Kremen School of Education and Human Development.

Administrator of the Year honors will go to:

  • George Alvarado, learning director at Clovis High School, who won degrees and credentials from the College of Health and Human Services (1997 and ’99) and Kremen School (2004).

  • Regina Uribes, college relation specialist at Fresno City College, a 1993 graduate of the Craig School of Business.

  • Roberto Vaca, guidance and learning specialist at Sanger High School, a 2004 graduate of Fresno State’s College of Science and Mathematics.

  • Julio Bustos of Fresno Pacific University will receive one of four Teacher of the Year awards. He graduated in 1992 from Fresno State’s College of Arts and Humanities.
