DOG DAYS orientation being held in June and July

Associated Students Vice President Alex Andreotti and administrative aide Mina Carrillo tell a new student about the many ways to get involved in student life at Fresno State. Five sessions are left this summer: July 16, 20, 22 28 and 29.

Fresno State Dog Days orientation leaders Beatrice Flores and Martina Ledezma lead a group of freshman students entering Liberal Studies in an icebreaker exercise as part of the 12 orientation sessions for incoming students this summer. Today's session is for freshmen entering the Craig School of Business, the Kremen School of Education, the Lyles College of Social Science, the College of Science and Math and undeclared majors. The next session is Wednesday, July 22.

DOG DAYS Fall 2009, a series of 15 orientation sessions for new students at California State University, Fresno, begins Wednesday, June 3.

DOG DAYS is for the new 2,800 freshmen and 1,900 transfer students , their parents and guests. Check-in begins at 7:15 a.m. in front of the Joyal Administration Building and each day’s program runs from 8 o’clock to 3:30 p.m.

All new undergraduates are expected to attend DOG DAYS and the sessions are mandatory for freshmen, said coordinator Kenneth Ternate of the Division of Student Affairs. The fall semester begins Aug. 24.

Academic advisers from each college or school will be available to discuss general education and major academic requirements. Faculty and student leaders will answer questions and give insight into campus life. A career services presentation, campus resource fair, pre-loan counseling workshop, campus safety discussion and campus tours also are offered.

A parent session answers questions about academics and co-curricular opportunities for students.

A new feature will be a veterans’ mobile display.

“DOG DAYS is an opportunity for our incoming students and their parents to experience Fresno State’s learning environment,” said Dr. Paul M. Oliaro, vice president for Student Affairs.

The DOG DAYS office (Joyal Administration Building, Room 224) is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, call 559.278.4885. However, when there is a DOG DAYS session, the office is open 9:30-11 a.m. and 12:15- 2 p.m.
