The Hispanic Outlook in
Higher Education Magazine rates California State University, Fresno
among the top 20 schools in the nation for awarding bachelor’s degrees
to Hispanics.
According to the May 2009 issue of the magazine, Fresno State is 18th in
awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics for the 2007-08 year. Fresno
State had 1,013 Hispanics student earn B.A. degrees.
In addition, Fresno State was 31st in awarding master’s degrees to 192
Hispanic students.
The magazine annually publishes lists of the 100 four-year colleges and
universities in the United States that confer the most bachelor's,
master's and doctoral degrees on Hispanic students. Information cited is
derived from the U.S. Department of Education's Integrated Postsecondary
Education Data System (IPEDS) program for July 1, 2007 through June 30,
2008.
Looking at specific academic programs, the magazine ranked Fresno State
eighth in bachelor’s degrees in agriculture to Hispanics (24) and ninth
for health science degrees (84).
Fresno State’s enrollment of Hispanic students in fall 2008 was 7,392,
or 32.7 percent of students enrolled.
