If
students feel the college experience is like a jungle, the Division of
Student Affairs offers to guide them with its fourth annual SAFARI from
10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, on the University Student
Union Balcony.
Student Affairs Fair
and Resource Information (SAFARI) presents representatives from 24
campus programs – Financial Aid, Registration, Career Services, Health
and Psychological Services, Student Life, Student Success and others –
to help students on their academic expedition.
Fresno State students
are encouraged to stop by for information on resources the university
offers to help make their college experience successful, said Dr. Paul
Oliaro, vice president for Student Affairs.
“Studies show that the
more students are involved in their campus and use the resources
available to them, the more likely they are to complete their degree,”
Oliaro said. “We are offering this event because we want students to
succeed at Fresno State.”
He said this is a
uniquely difficult year for students with the state budget crisis that
led to increased fees, class cuts, enrollment limitations and employee
furloughs causing campus closures.
“The SAFARI event,
while initiated with a fun-while-learning concept, is a real opportunity
for students to learn they can use the university’s many support
services as they deal with the budget fallout on a personal level,”
Oliaro said. “Students know they need to make the most of their
investment in their future and we are here to help them with that.”
The fun part of this
learning experience is that students can enjoy giveaways at the various
tables, music and food and also be eligible for an LCD TV, laptop
computer, bicycle, camera, ski tickets and gift cards.
