In an effort to conserve
resources, California State University, Fresno and five other major
universities with agriculture and natural resource programs in the state
have begun meeting to discuss areas for collaboration.
“The opportunity for deans and department chairs to meet with their
counterparts from other California universities allows all of us to work
together and maximize our limited resources,” said Charles Boyer, dean
of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Fresno
State.
The group recently met at the University of California, Davis to discuss
strategies for collaboration and interactions on course offerings,
distance education, research, grants and the water crisis.
“The deans are working on a seed grant program to allow faculty from two
or more campuses to develop distance-delivered classes, develop research
teams to work together on key issues and attract agency funding or
develop bridge programs for students to enter graduate school,” said
Boyer.
Participating universities are Fresno State; California Polytechnic
State University, Pomona; California Polytechnic State University, San
Luis Obispo; California State University, Chico; University of
California, Davis; and University of California, Riverside.
Fresno State plans to host the group’s next meeting.
