A Flu and
Cold Pack is available to students for $5. |
A low-cost flu shot clinic
for students will be held on campus Wednesday, Sept. 23, at California
State University, Fresno.
The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Pavilion on the
lower level of the University Student Union. The flu vaccine is to
protect against seasonal influenza, not against the H1N1 virus. The H1N1
vaccine will be available later this fall.
Fresno State nursing students will be staffing the clinic under the
supervision of Nursing Department faculty. The fee is $10 (cash or
check).
Faculty and staff are urged to see their health care providers for
seasonal flu vaccinations.
As the H1N1 vaccine becomes available, Fresno State will provide
additional information on when and where the HiN1 Flu shots can be
accessed.
The flu shot clinic is one of several efforts under way to educate the
campus about the seasonal flu and H1N1 flu virus.
A “Flu Central” Web page at
www.csufresno.edu and
www.fresnostatenews.com provides information about prevention and
treatment and links to other information sources.
To ease cold or flu symptoms, the Student Health Center has a “Cold and
Flu Pack” available for $5 for students. The kits contain acetaminophen
(comparable to Tylenol), a thermometer, an expectorant to relieve chest
congestion, a nasal decongestant, cough drops, hand sanitizer and
tissues.
Since classes began in late August, approximately 80 students with
influenza-like illness – presumed to be H1N1 – have visited the Student
Health Center. The cases have been mild and lasting only a few days,
according to Joyce Harris, assistant vice president of University Health
& Psychological Services.
For more information about the Flu Shot Clinic, contact Dr. Michael
Russler, chair of the Nursing Department at 559.278.2041.
