At Fresno State’s
season-opening football game (7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5) against UC Davis
at Bulldog Stadium, the Bulldog Marching Band will be in new uniforms as
it builds spirit musically among fans and will be joined by a new Dance
Team.
The band uniforms, which will create a sea of red, white and blue on the
field, include the Bulldog logo on the breast of each jacket.
“Our new uniforms are a brand new look for us,” said Tim Anderson,
director of the marching band. “We are excited that they include many of
the familiar logos of Fresno State, such as the four-paw Bulldog and the
Green V. The uniforms have also been specifically constructed to be
lighter-weight than our previous set. They should keep the students cool
in the Fresno heat.”
Funding for the uniforms was provided by the Associated Students, Inc.’s
Instructionally Related Activity fund.
Also new to the Bulldog Marching Band is the Dance Team, directed by
Tiphanie McNiff, a member of the Oakland Raiderettes. The 21-member
group is sponsored by D.A. Designs Dancewear of Clovis, which donated
the dance team’s uniforms.
Another new performer is Christine Glymph, who joins Emily Ash as
featured baton twirlers with the band. Glymph is a freshman from
Torrance and won several awards while a student at Bishop Montgomery
High School.
The Bulldog Marching Band makes its 2009 debut at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday,
when it marches across campus from the Music Building to Bulldog
Stadium. The band’s traditional pre-game show will begin at 6:40 pm.
This year, the band moves back into stadium seats at Section 38, which
is at the end of the student section, against the south ramp.
During halftime the band will perform popular Latin music, as part of
the Bulldogs’ Football Fiesta Night tribute to the Latino community.
