The
28th annual African-American Student Recruitment Conference at
California State University, Fresno will provide students with
information about the admissions process and courses they must take to
ensure a successful transition to a California State University.
University Outreach Services sponsors the event, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 14
in the Satellite Student Union (2485 E. San Ramon Ave. at Maple Avenue).
The registration deadline is Oct. 30 for the conference, which is free
and open to the public.
Students will participate in workshops to help prepare them for life
after high school. A financial aid workshop will be available for
parents.
Dr. Joyce Ester, Fresno State’s assistant vice president for Judicial
Affairs and planning in the Division of Student Affairs, is the keynote
speaker at 10 a.m. Her topic is “The P.O.W.E.R.to Succeed.”
She came to Fresno State in 2007 with 15 years of experience in student
affairs at private and public colleges. Ester has delivered motivational
talks at conferences and workshops, discussing her passion for student
development, generational differences and communication, racial and
social identity development and group effectiveness.
Ester received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Northern Illinois
University and master’s and doctoral degrees in education from the
University of California, Santa Barbara.
