Flu cases rising on campus

The Student Health Center is closely monitoring the H1N1 influenza situation and Joyce Harris, assistant vice president of University Health & Psychological Services, reports that the number of Fresno State students with flu-like illness is rising.

However, she said, the symptoms are still mild and each student is making a full recovery in three to five days.

Last week, the health center saw 34 cases of flu-like illness. The prior week the number was 17. To date this fall, 158 cases of flu-like illness and 9 cases of H1N1 were reported on campus.

Fresno State’s Student Health Center is awaiting its first doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine.  Once it arrives -- and depending on the amount received – the Student Health Center will be able to offer H1N1 flu shots to students, staff and faculty. There will be no charge.
