CAVES wine tastings Saturdays at Farm Market

The Nov. 28 event has been cancelled and will be re-scheduled after the holidays.

The California Association of Viticulture and Enology Scholars (CAVES) at California State University, Fresno plans a wine tasting noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, as part of a weekly series designed to provide the students enhanced learning opportunities.

The tastings are held at the Gibson Farm Market on campus at Chestnut and Barstow avenues and are open to anyone 21 and older.

For $2 participants can taste a variety of Fresno State wines. Featured this week are Fresno State Winery 2009 Nouveau Blanc, 2009 Nouveau Rouge and 2009 Vin D’Une Nuit (a rosé), all   to be released two days earlier at Le Vin Nouveau. The Nov. 28 tasting will offer 2008 Merlot, 2006 Fasi Syrah and 2006 Saviez Syrah.

“Our students are very knowledgeable and able to assist customers with all of their wine questions,” said Jennifer Sobieralski, Ag Foundation enterprise product marketing manager and Gibson Farm Market manager.

CAVES is a professional organization that supports students in the Fresno State Departments of Viticulture and Enology by promoting cooperation, leadership, professionalism and academic excellence, said club president Anthony Thomas, a senior enology major.

The program helps bring students into contact with the community, alumni and the viticulture and enology industries,” he said, to help launch their professional careers.
