The
Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band is back on its way to Albuquerque
following unexpected layover this morning in Barstow because of a
problem with bus tires, for the fourth annual New Mexico Bowl football
game to be played Saturday, Dec. 19, by the Bulldogs and the Wyoming
Cowboys.
Three buses are carrying the 170 band members. Last year, just 30 band
members went to the New Mexico Bowl when Fresno State played Colorado
State, but additional funding from the Associated Students Inc. and
university President Dr. John D. Welty made it possible for other band
members to travel.
Fans in Albuquerque will get several opportunities to see the Bulldog
Band in action before performing in field shows at University Stadium
before the game and at half‐time.
The half‐time show will be “Music of Journey,” which was performed at
the recent Band Day half-time in Bulldog Stadium. This time, however,
the band will execute a marching drill to go along with Alan Moffett’s
arrangements, said Timothy Anderson, the band’s director.
The bowl festivities ramp up Friday with the New Mexico Bowl pep rally
outside University Stadium on the University of New Mexico campus at
4:30 p.m., which concludes with a colorful fireworks display. The
Bulldog band and the University of Wyoming Western Thunder Marching Band
band will be on hand, trading tunes back and forth, and so will Fresno
State Coach Pat Hill and Bulldog football players.
The Bulldog band will be part of the Fresno State Pep Rally from 6 to 7
p.m. at the Albuquerque Marriott, which is the official Fresno State
hotel. The Bulldog rally, sponsored by the Fresno State Alumni
Association, will feature the Fresno State Dance Team and appearances by
Coach Hill, President Welty and Athletics Director Thomas Boeh.
On Game Day, the Bulldog Marching Band will stop by the Alumni
Association’s tailgate, which begins at noon in the parking lot outside
University Stadium. The band will arrive after 1 o’clock, marching
through the lot serenading Bulldog fans on its way to the field.

The New Mexico Bowl, which kicks off the nation’s postseason collegiate
football bowl season, will be televised at 1:30 p.m. (Pacific Standard
Time) on ESPN.
Following the game, the band will begin the bus ride back to Fresno,
hoping to arrive about 11 a.m. Sunday.
