Keeping healthy is a science that Helda Pinzon-Perez understands well. An associate professor in the Health Science Department, Dr. Pinzon-Perez helps build her students’ awareness of regional health issues. She was director of the Public Health Academy, is president-elect of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and a former member of the Language Access Committee of the Fresno Health Consumer Center. She has won grants for research on pap smear screening rates among Latinas in Medicaid systems and on breast cancer among Latino males. Spreading the word about how to maintain good health, she educates community members about issues related to children’s health and disease prevention. Her articles have been published in scholarly journals such as the Journal of Cancer Education, the American Journal of Health Education and the Journal of School Health. With Dr. Pinzon-Perez is Isabel Maciel, a senior Criminology major. |
