She’s the best of the best, an inspiration to her colleagues, a role model for students who want to be teachers. Dr. Susan Harris, professor in the Curriculum and Instruction Department of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, was the recipient of the 2004 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She came to Fresno State in 1987 after a 20-year career teaching in secondary schools in California and Texas. Here, her focus is training teachers-to-be in curriculum, instruction and educational technology. One of Dr. Harris’ specialties is assessing and promoting instructional innovations to help her students become more effective teachers. She developed a graduate elective course that explores creating visual images for effective classroom communication. As a model for good teaching practices, Dr. Harris holds her students to high but achievable standards.

With Dr. Harris are Diane McGlasson and Demetria Vincent-Walker, both postbaccalaureate credentials candidates.
