Mediator/Mentors

Mediator Appreciation Day set for May 19
On Tuesday, May 19 Mediator Appreciation Day will draw 800 to 1,000 student mediators from local schools to the Satellite Student Union to hear presentations from the deans and associate deans of each college. The students will have tours from University Outreach Ambassadors and learn more about mediation. Student mediators work in pairs to facilitate dispute resolution. They receive their training from the Fresno State Mediator Mentors Program in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. The program pairs university students headed for helping professions with school-based mediation programs. The relationships built between mentors and mediators are mutually enlightening and supportive. Mentors also learn from the teachers, counselors and social workers employed at each of the school sites. Support from Fresno State's Peace and Conflict Studies, Friends of Civic Engagement, the Association for Conflict Resolution, and the other contributors provides stipends for university students.
