Yang to perform in Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series
Korean-born pianist Joyce Yang, Silver Medalist of the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will appear in recital for the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series on Friday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. She will be replacing Mikhail Rudy, who had to cancel his North American tour due to a hand injury. Ms. Yang's program consists of works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Schumann, and contemporary composers Lowell Lieberman and Carl Vine. Admission is $18 general, $12 for seniors, and $5 for students. - A special event of the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series (not part of the subscription series) will feature pianist Vahan Mardirossian (Paris) and cellist Alexander Chaushian (London) in a duo recital on Friday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Their program consists of works by Debussy, Shostakovich, and Franck.
- The Fresno State Piano Majors are celebrating the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth with a marathon recital including many of the composer's sonatas, ballades, scherzi, polonaises, nocturnes, impromptus, etudes, mazurkas, and other works. The event takes place in the Wahlberg Recital Hall on Sunday, February 28, at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 general and $2 for students.
Portable Dance Troupe performs Feb. 12-20
The
Portable Dance Troupe with Ruth Griffin as artistic director performs "The Body Electric" Feb. 12-20 in the John Wright Theatre. All performances begin at 8 p.m. except on Sunday, when the performance begins at 2 p.m. The performance is closed on Monday. General admission is $17. Admission for Fresno State faculty/staff, Alumni Association members*, military, seniors (60 +), and non-Fresno State students (Under 5 not admitted) is $15. Arts and Humanities Lecture series offerings
Judge Debra Kazanjian will speak at 4 p.m. on Feb. 25 in Speech Arts 151. Kazanjian (B.A. Speech Communication 1974) worked as an attorney for 19 years before being elected Superior Court Judge in 2000. She is currently assigned to the Probate Court. She is a past president of the Fresno County Planning Commission, Fresno State Alumni Association, Channel 18 Business Advisory Committee, and Fresno County Young Lawyers Association. She was also chosen as one of the Top Ten Business and Professional Women of the Year in 1993.
Emily Kuroda, award-winning television, stage, and film actress, will speak at 2 p.m. on March 4 in Speech Arts 153. Kuroda (B.A. Theatre Arts 1977) starred for seven years as Mrs. Kim in Warner Brothers’ Gilmore Girls. She was also a series regular on Under One Roof. Other television credits include King of Queens, General Hospital, and ER. Ms. Kuroda has played roles in many feature film roles including the Emmy-nominated About Love and the soon-to-be-released Aussie and Ted. Her numerous stage acting appearances include Luis Alfaro’s Straight as a Line at the Playwrights Arena. She is the recipient of five Dramalogue Awards, a Garland Award for outstanding performance, an L.A. Ovation award nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Play, Playwrights Arena Award, and the EWP Award for Outstanding Contribution to LA Theater.

Upcoming University Theatre productions
Campus student stage productions this semester begin March 12-20 with Heathen Valley by Romulus Linney, directed by Brad Myers. Next will be Time Again in Oz by L. Frank Baum, adapted by Susan L. Zeder, with music by Richard Gray and directed by J. Daniel Herring. The production will be staged May 7-15. Performances begin at 8 p.m., except Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m.Season tickets: $75, general admission; $65, Fresno State faculty/staff, Alumni Association members, seniors (60+) and non-Fresno State students; $50, Fresno State students.
