Fresno State celebrates landmark anniversary
Fresno State celebrates its landmark 100th birthday starting April 16 at noon when President John D. Welty and CSU Trustee Dr. Peter G. Mehas, the Centennial committee chair, present a proclamation and unveil the Fresno State Centennial Web site.
"Our centennial celebration is upon us," Dr. Welty says. "On April 16, we will officially begin that celebration when we commemorate the legislation that established the Fresno Normal School. This will be a great opportunity for our university community to pause and reflect on what we’ve accomplished over 100 years, and then also to begin looking ahead to our next century." Exciting partnerships and projects meet student needs
Serving students is a central to everything the university does, and Cynthia Teniente-Matson, vice president for Administration, is working on ways to serve them better.
For example, an entrepreneurial partnership between bookstore and Chegg.com has made textbooks more affordable. In early February, more than 36,000 textbooks were rented by students.
"From my perspective, that’s been a huge success," says Teniente-Matson. "First and foremost there has been significant savings for students in the tens of thousands." See the full story with video here.
