Nursing program receives $1 million bequest
The College of Health and Human Services has received its largest single gift to date: a $1,027,922 million bequest from the estate of alumnus Air Force Col. Edwin J. Cook to provide scholarships for nursing students.
Col. Cook became connected to the Valley when he was 17 and his family moved to Reedley to operate a ranch. While attending a Sacramento high school, he was in ROTC. He used that experience when asked to develop the ROTC program at Reedley High. He later transferred to Fresno High, and joined the Army Air Corps (now the Air Force) when he was 18. After his service in World War II, he returned to Fresno where he graduated from Fresno State in 1949. See the full story here.

ASI spearheads
centennial scholarship fund
In recognition of our Centennial celebration, the Associated Students have donated $25,000 to endow the Centennial Scholars program, a special scholarship fund created to support future Bulldogs. Their gift was announced by ASI president Jessica Sweeten at the Pinnacle Reception on April 23. Any student in any major will be able to apply for the Centennial Scholars awards, as long as he or she maintains a fulltime schedule and a 3.0 GPA. Student affairs development director Paul DeRuosi is coordinating the program. If you would like more information, please contact Paul at pauld@csufresno.edu or ext. 5052.
