Arne Nixon Center shows new film on Feb. 3
Faculty, staff, and the public are invited to an exclusive Central Valley showing of a new film, Library of the Early Mind: A Grown-up Look at the Art of Children's Literature Thursday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 2206 in the south wing of the Henry Madden Library. The 85-minute movie explores the art and impact of children's literature on our kids, our culture, and ourselves. The film features 40 prominent authors and illustrators, including Gregory Maguire, Lemony Snicket, Nancy Garden, Jerry Pinkney, Brian Selznick, and many more.

Light refreshments will be served in that same room starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free but seating is limited to 100 on a first, first-served basis. Older children are welcome if accompanied by adults. Free parking is available. Please enter the campus on Barton Avenue. Look for the parking pass dispenser on the right side of Barton after you turn in and enter this code number: 11200033. Park in lots E or D, south and east of the Library, but not in the metered spaces. This program is cosponsored by Cineculture.

 

Department of Music offers concert on Feb. 11
Fresno State piano majors perform in concert Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. The performance will feature the works of Robert Schumann in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth in Zwickau, Germany and other notable works. Admission to the concert is $7 general, $6 seniors, and $5 for students. For ticket reservations and other information, please call 278-2337.

 

SonKeyboard Concerts series features Yeol Eum Son Feb. 13
Painist Yeol Eum Son, Silver Medalist 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, performs works by Schumann, Chopin, Kapustin, Liszt, and Tchaikovsky/Feinberg on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Already acknowledged as an artist to watch in Asia, Yeol eum Son continues to add European and North American recognition and performance opportunities to her portfolio including an appearance with the New York Philharmonic under Lorin Maazel. Library's Friday Concert Series features talents of faculty and students
The Henry Madden Library presents its Friday Concert Series featuring students and faculty from the Fresno State Department of Music. Performances are in the Peters Ellipse from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Scheduled performances are as follows:

  • Feb. 4 - Krista Riggs, Oboe; Hatem Nadim, Piano. Recital of Baroque Music. Mr. Nadim will perform on the Centennial Steinway piano.
  • March 4 - Tom and Lenore Hiebert, Horn and Piano featuring period music from Centennial Steinway piano era.
  • March 18 - Piano Majors Recital. Students of Professor Andreas Werz perform an all-Schumann recital on the Centennial Steinway piano celebrating the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth.
  • May 6 - Faculty Jazz Quintet, featuring Alan Durst (saxophone), Michael Caldwell (trumpet), Craig VonBerg (piano) and Brian Hamada (drums).
