In the last few weeks farewell to some longtime friends and benefactors:
Alumna Margaret "Fitz" Whitten passed away Jan. 18 at the age of 93. In the weeks before her passing, she established a new President's Honors Scholarship for a student studying music. She was featured in the Nov. 2010 issue of Fresno State Magazine.
Mary Carolyn Dobbs, an alumna who became a teacher and internationally renowned pioneer in special education, passed away Jan. 12 in Grass Valley. She was 99. Ms. Dobbs was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the California State University in 2004. Ms. Dobbs established the M. Carolyn Dobbs Endowment for Special Education at the Kremen School. See the full story here.
University friend and benefactor, Alice A. Peters passed away Jan. 24 at the age of 97. The widow of Leon S. Peters, she and her husband established a charitable foundation in 1959 which has greatly benefitted the Fresno community, particularly Fresno State. The family has identified Fresno State and Community Hospitals as recipients of memorial gifts in her name. See the full story here.
Campaign Update
A group of alumni who live in southern California have joined together to reach out to Fresno State alumni in the southland and gain their support for the university. Campaign co-chair and alumnus Omel Nieves is heading the group along with alumnus Mark Schuster.
Ellen Jamra has been named acting Associate Vice President for Development. Mary Anna Dunn retired in December, and a national search is underway to fill the position permanently.
