‘Gutter’ at Cedar and Barstow to be removed
A project to remove the huge "gutter" on Barstow Avenue at Cedar Avenue and reconstruct disabled ramps at the intersection will begin Monday, July 6. The project will require that Barstow between Cedar and Campus Drive be closed until completion, which is expected Monday, July 27. To access campus from the north, use Chestnut Avenue to Barstow. From the south, use Woodrow Avenue to Barstow.

Campus closed July 4
Classes will not meet and offices will be closed at Fresno State on Friday, July 3, in recognition of Independence Day on July 4. The Gibson Farm Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. The University Police Department will be on duty. In the event of an emergency, call 559.278.8400. Classes will resume and offices will re-open on Monday, July 6. Summer hours throughout the campus are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. More...

Dr. John Suen selected as Geological Society fellow
Dr. John SuenDr. John Suen, a professor of earth and environmental sciences at California State University, Fresno, will become a fellow of the Geological Society of America. Suen will be honored Oct. 17-19 at the society’s annual meeting in Portland, Ore. The Geological Society of America, which has more than 22,000 members in 85 countries, elects fellows each year based on contributions to the advancement of geosciences. More...

Library revises summer hours
New hours for the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno will begin Monday, July 6, and continue through Aug. 23. The library will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed Saturday and Sunday.

Animator Chuck Harvey lectures at Fresno State
Animator Chuck Harvey, whose work includes the films “Robin Hood,” “Pete’s Dragon” and “The Little Mermaid,” will lecture at 7 p.m., July 2, at the Wahlberg Recital Hall in the Music Building at California State University, Fresno. Harvey is a guest artist and instructor in the CSU Summer Arts program, hosted by Fresno State for the 11th consecutive year. More...

Fresno State, community partners host youth After School University
More than 300 first- through sixth-graders from Fresno Unified School District are participating in the After School University, a hands-on educational summer camp at California State University, Fresno modeled on a university system. Running through July 17, the program is hosted by the Office of Teacher Recruitment at Fresno State in conjunction with SoluNet, an educational firm that creates, plans and administers after-school programs.

The Lyles College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno is one of 10 collegiate recipients nationwide of the prestigious 2009 HP Innovations in Education grant. Picture book author/artist Aliki has donated 21 pieces of original art – as many pictures as for one of her famous picture books – to the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at California State University, Fresno. Marching Band’s ‘explosive’ fundraiser July 1-4
The Bulldog Marching Band at California State University, Fresno will set up two fireworks booths in Fresno and Clovis to raise money for the 2009-10 school year. Band members will operate the booths from 9 a.m. until dark starting Wednesday, July 1, through Saturday, July 4. More...

Campaign for Fresno State sets $200 million goal

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine rates California State University, Fresno among the top 20 schools in the nation for awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics.
