IRA’s offer opportunities to support Fresno
State programs
The recent Pension
Protection Act of 2006 provides an exceptional opportunity to make rollover
gifts from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) this year and next. Carol
Widmer, a certified financial planner and director of planned giving for the
University, says the new rule allows gifts up to $100,000 per taxpayer in
2006 and 2007 that can be excluded from taxable income. To take advantage of
the exclusion, a person must arrange to transfer funds directly from a
traditional or Roth IRA to the
California State University,
Fresno, Foundation no
sooner than an individual’s 70½ birthday. Making a donation through a
Rollover IRA is a tax-effective way of funding programs at Fresno State,
Widmer said. She can be reached at 278.8337 or
