‘Laramie Project’ debuts Dec. 8
The killing of university student Matthew Shepard on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyo., in 1998 made national headlines and created a community uproar that revolved around Shepard’s sexual orientation. It is the subject of “The Laramie Project,” a University Theatre production that debuts Friday, Dec. 8, in the John Wright Theatre. ‘Prairie Home Companion’ on KFSR
After several years of not being available over the air to Fresno area radio listeners, humorist Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home companion” is back, thanks to campus station KFSR, FM 90.7. The show, which formerly aired on NPR Fresno affiliate KVPR, airs 5-7 p.m. Saturdays and is rebroadcast at noon Sunday. Click here for details.


Crowded musical performance calendar
December’s Music Department concert calendar is packed with six performances before the winter break begins. A student composers’ recital at 7:30 p.m. today, Dec. 4, in the Wahlberg Recital Hall begins the festivities. At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, the Symphonic Band plays, and the Fresno State jazz bands hold forth at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, both in the Concert Hall. The Fresno State String Orchestra performs at 8 p.m. Dec. 11 in the Concert Hall and guitar students plan a recital at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. The month’s music schedule concludes at 4 p.m. Dec. 17 in the Concert Hall with a performance by the gospel choir. For more information and tickets, call 278.2654.
