Donation, grant will allow Arena Theatre renovation
Fresno State’s Arena Theatre will get a makeover thanks to the generosity of the Harry C. Mitchell Trust and of Dennis and Cheryl Woods, who originally were asked to find donors for the project but decided to be the donors themselves. The university secured a $250,000 matching grant from the Mitchell Trust to install new lighting, sound and flooring, upgrade seating and improve makeup, dressing and green rooms for the 190-seat theater. Dennis Woods, an alumnus and longtime university benefactor through the Bulldog Foundation and president of United Security Bank, and his wife, Cheryl, were asked to help. They reviewed the project, toured the theater and agreed this was the arts project they wanted to support. Their matching contribution will be honored by the naming of the Dennis and Cheryl Woods Arena Theatre.
