Clinic director will evaluate needle exchange
Dr. Marc Lasher, medical director of the Fresno Free Medical Clinic, will discuss “Harm Reduction and Needle Exchange” in Fresno County at the College of Health and Human Services Interdisciplinary Distinguished Scholar Lecture at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10. Asian cultures featured by International Coffee Hour
Thailand (April 10), Taiwan (April 17), Saudi Arabia (April 24) and Bangladesh (May 1) are the next “destinations” for the weekly International Coffee Hour presentations. Programs are designed for faculty, staff and students to learn about the origins of some of the scores of cultures represented on campus. International Coffee Hour is held at 2 p.m. Tuesdays in University Student Union Rooms 312-314.
Yarbrough will talk about writing at Osher Institute
Steve Yarbrough (English), whose 2006 novel “The End of California” has won critical acclaim, will address the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at 5:30 p.m. April 11 at the Satellite Student Union. The event is open to the public for a $10 admission fee, payable at the door, and is free to Osher Institute members. Click here for details.
Mixed-ethnic identity is lecture topic
“The Blur of Mixed-Ethnic Identity: Focusing on the Politics and Possibilities of Multiple Selves" will be the topic of Shane Moreman’s (Communication) lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12 in the Alice Peters Auditorium. The presentation is part of the Arts and Humanities Lecture Series. There is no charge for admission to Moreman’s lecture. For details about Moreman, click here.
Fresno State hosts indigenous rights conference
Edward Castillo, a professor and coordinator of Native American Studies at Sonoma State University, will speak during a conference on indigenous rights beginning at 5:30 p.m. April 12 at the Satellite Student Union. The event begins at with a global warming panel, followed by Castillo’s talk at 6:45 p.m. on California history from the native perspective. Journalist talks about community involvement
New York Times writer and editor David Gonzalez will discuss the importance of civic engagement and community involvement at 6:30 p.m. April 11 in the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center. Meetings set to help grant investigators
The Grants and Research Advisory Board has scheduled four meetings this month to provide information for principal investigators and others interested in obtaining grants. Nominations sought for outstanding advisers
Nominations will be accepted through April 13 for the Outstanding Advisor Awards, which honor academic and faculty advisers and carry $1,000 professional development stipends. Award recipients – selected by the provost and vice president for student affairs – will be honored at the Campus Advisors Network Appreciation Reception at 3 p.m. May 3. Click here for details.

Faculty, staff and students are clubs/organizations are encouraged to nominate clubs, organizations, advisers and students for the annual awards banquet sponsored by the Fresno State Leadership Program. Secret Garden Party is April 15
Reservations are being accepted for the fifth annual Secret Garden Party, the major fundraiser sponsored by the Arne Nixon Center Advocates, which supports the Henry Madden Library’s Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children's Literature. Emerging student leaders sought for retreat
Faculty and staff are asked to encourage students to participate in the Fresno State Leadership Program’s Emerging Leaders Retreat on April 27-28. The free event for potential student leaders is designed to help students improve teamwork and problem-solving skills, increase knowledge of leadership styles and skills, and enhance personal development. Grad student week is April 23-27
Graduate Student Recognition Week is scheduled April 23-27 to acknowledge the contributions of Fresno State’s graduate students. The campus community is encouraged to be involved in department, school and college colloquia. The Research Expo and Reception at 4 p.m. April 25 in the Gottschalk’s Gallery of the Peters Business Building will feature poster presentations of student research. The recognition expo and reception are free and open to the public. All graduate faculty and students are encouraged to attend.
CalPERS Retirement Planning Fair in May
Whether faculty and staff are contemplating retirement in the distant future or soon, there will be information available at the CalPERS Retirement Planning Fair scheduled May 8-9. Dog Days schedule released
Dog Days for incoming first-time Fresno State students will begin June 5 and continue into August. Dog Days provide orientation for hundreds of new students each summer, offering a full day of information, including sessions with specific colleges and schools. Click here for details.
Annual emeriti luncheon set Oct. 2
Emeritus faculty will be honored at the 34th annual Emeriti Awards Luncheon on Oct. 2 at the Residence Dining Facility. The event begins with an 11:30 a.m. social gathering, followed by lunch at noon.
