Rita Bocchinfuso-Cohen
(Career Services,) Dennis Neff (Undergraduate Studies) and Charles Boyer (Agricultural Sciences and Technology) participated in a Western Region U.S. Department of Agriculture Disability Awareness Conference on campus. The USDA-Hispanic-Serving Institution National Program and Fresno State collaborated with the USDA-AMS Civil Rights Office to stage the conference, which drew participation from regional USDA agencies.
 Andrew Fiala’s
(Philosophy) newest book, “What Would Jesus Really Do? The Power and Limits of Jesus' Moral Teachings” (Rowman and Littlefield; $19.95), was published April 25. The book respects Jesus Christ as a moral teacher, but also points out the importance of contemporary ethical consideration in determining what his message would be on today’s ethical challenges. Peter Robertson
(Development) presented the lecture “Marketing for Nonprofit Organizations" to the members and friends of the Fresno Non-profit Advancement Council. Robertson, the former director of marketing and membership for the Fresno Alumni Association, is now the university’s director of annual giving.
David Ross
(Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures) received the French National Ministry of Education’s Chevalier des Palmes Académiques for a career teaching French language, culture and literature. His essay, “Madame Souza’s Casa Portuguesa in France: The Portuguese Element in Sylvain Chomet’s Multicultural, Animated Film, Les Triplettes de Belleville,” appeared in “Tradições Portuguesas (Portuguese Traditions): In honor of Claude Hulet” published in April. Douglas Singleton
(Physics) had two papers published in December: "Hawking temperature in the tunneling picture" in Physics Letters B, with Emil Akhmedov and Valeria Akhmedova, both of the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics in Moscow; and "Electric S-brane solutions with a parallel charge density form on a Ricci-flat factor space," in Gravitation & Cosmology, with Vladimir Ivashchuk of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and Fresno State graduate student Sergio Rudametkin-Aguilar. Both projects were supported by an International Activities Grant from the College of Science and Mathematics.
James Wilson
(Biology) received training to replicate former Vice President Al Gore’s presentation that became the Oscar-winning documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” which highlights the science behind and solutions to global warming. Wilson was trained to make presentations ranging from a half-hour to two hours to parents, schools and students, religious institutions, community associations, town officials, PTAs and other organizations.
