Work will temporarily disrupt traffic and parking
Construction projects will affect parking and traffic for the next several weeks. The Chestnut Avenue project is not expected to be finished until late this year. Meanwhile, the frontage road running parallel to Shaw Avenue near Lots G and F has been closed, changing access to both lots. Lot V will be under construction (solar panels atop parking shelters) and likely will stay closed until October. Click here for details.

Nursing teamFresno State nursing team wins technology grant
Mary Barakzai, Dorothy Frasier and Robert Fire (Nursing) comprise one of 10 teams from more than 70 U.S. universities selected for the 2007 Duke University Technology Integration Program for Nursing Education and Practice. The program helps universities provide opportunities for faculty to explore new technology and its use in nursing education and clinical practice. Fresno State’s team was awarded a $3,000 stipend for a PDA technology project to improve clinical skills and the quality of care for patients. Click here for details.

Bookstore extended hours near end
The Kennel Bookstore is operating on an extended-hours basis. Through Thursday, Sept. 6, the bookstore is open 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. The schedule changes to 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, and to 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. Click here for details.

Dog Run tram will whisk you around campus
If it’s a long walk from where you work to where you park, or if you need to reach a distant point on the campus, you can get a free ride aboard the Dog Run, a campus shuttle service. It operates on a fixed-route basis 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday on northern and southern routes and 6-10 p.m. on the southern route (residence halls to Student Recreation Center). Harold H. HaakHaak family accepts Foundation Award
Harold H. Haak, Fresno State’s president from 1980 to ‘92, was honored posthumously with the Foundation Award for his outstanding leadership, dedication to educational advancement and ability to bring people together. Dr. Haak died in 2003. His wife, Betty, received the award in May during the annual Pinnacle Society Dinner, which honors people who have contributed $500,000 or more to Fresno State. New features that make finding materials easier have been added to Millennium, Madden Library's catalog of holdings and electronic resources. Millennium was launched in April 2007. Millennium can be accessed at www.csufresno.edu/library/catalog

Hallways and walkways should be kept clear
Environmental Health and Safety/Risk Management issued a reminder that unwanted and surplus items should not be left in hallways or walkways, which creates an unsafe environment by blocking pathways that need to be clear in a fire or other emergencies. To discard unwanted items, contact Property Services by calling 278.7977.

University Dining Services offers new options
University Dining Services offers new eating options on campus and new names for some familiar eating places, too. The University Restaurant now is the Vintage Room, and Taco Bell has relocated to join Round Table pizza, both in the University Center. Chick-fil-A soon will be an option in the University Student Union fast-food area with Panda Express and Subway. Weekly specials are new, too. Click here to visit the new Web site.

Staff Assembly seeks silent auction donations
The annual silent auction to raise money for the spring staff assembly luncheon is scheduled Nov. 15 in the Residence Dining Hall. Defensive driving schedule announced
The next monthly defensive driving class for Fresno State employees will be taught Sept. 28. An online class is available 24/7 for anyone who cannot participate in the classroom instruction. A certificate of course completion is mandatory for driving a vehicle on state business. To participate in the classroom courses, all held in Room 312 of the University Student Union from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m., call Jeri Willis at 278.7422 or e-mail jeriw@csufresno.edu.
