Emeriti Luncheon pays tribute to 34 faculty
The annual Emeriti Luncheon on Oct. 15 will honor 34 faculty members awarded emeritus status. The reservation deadline is Oct. 8 for the event, which begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Courtyard Dining Facility with a reception, followed by lunch at noon. The cost is $10 payable by check to California State University, Fresno Foundation and sent to  Rosie Tapia, Coordinator of Events, Office of the President, M/S TA48. Luncheon will consider access to breast-cancer care
Fresno State’s Central Valley Health Policy Institute will co-sponsor a community lunch to discuss the Fresno Breast Cancer Navigator Pilot Program designed to eliminate barriers and provide resources so all women can receive needed breast-cancer care. The program is funded by the California Breast Cancer Research Program of the University of California. Other partners are the San Joaquin Valley Health Consortium, University Medical Center/Community Medical Centers, University of California, San Francisco-Fresno, Department of Family and Community Medicine and the community. Hearing evaluations offered
The Speech and Hearing Clinic of the Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Studies offers a number of free hearing evaluations during the fall semester. The clinic is located in the Psychology and Human Services building. To obtain a case history form – the first step in the evaluation process – call 278.2422 or e-mail Lynne Campbell at lcampbell@csufresno.edu.

Open enrollment ends Oct. 12
The open enrollment period for 2008 benefits ends Oct. 12. Changes can be sent online or on paper. Information about enrollment is available from Benefits Services by phone at 278.2031 or by visiting the office, Room 164 of the Joyal Administration Building (8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday). No action is necessary for employees who do not intend to make adjustments to medical or dental plans or FlexCash program. Click here for details.

Information meeting Oct. 14 for spring London semester
The second of three orientation sessions for anyone considering applying for the spring 2008 London semester is scheduled at 4 p.m. Oct. 14 in Education Building Room 140.  Applications are available for the program, which is open to students, faculty, staff and the general community interested in for-credit art, English, history, humanities and theater courses. Gonzalez, Molina honored with Latino Heritage Awards
Luz Gonzalez, dean of the College of Social Sciences, and Anthony Molina, staff physician, were presented Latino Heritage Awards by Assemblymember Juan Arambula, D-Fresno. The awards pay tribute to people who exhibit outstanding leadership in several categories. Gonzalez was the honoree in education, while Molina won the award in medicine. Brian Nieto, the son of Mary Nieto who recently retired from the College of Social Sciences staff, received the public safety award in recognition of being shot while on duty in July 2006.

Stipends offered for foreign study
Faculty are asked to tell undergraduate and graduate students about the 2008-09 National Security Education Program David L. Boren Scholarship and Fellowship competitions. The program provides scholarships of up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study abroad and fellowships up to $30,000 to study language or do international research in regions critical to United States interests. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs’ Web site has been redesigned to make it easier for visitors to find and to help faculty trying to expedite the proposal submission process. The site now includes a section for online forms, including the Project Information Form; the revised project director’s handbook; regular grant reports; researcher profiles; and an FAQs page. Steve WestleyeBay co-founder Westley keynotes regional venture forum
Steve Westley, a co-founder of eBay and a former California state controller, will keynote the second annual Central Valley Venture Forum at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center. The day-long forum, featuring feature expert speakers and panelists, local growth companies and networking opportunities is co-sponsored by the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
