Denim driveDenim drive for Hurricane Katrina victims begins Oct. 1
USU Productions again is conducting a Blue to Green Denim Drive, asking people to donate denim clothing for recycling, proceeds from which will be sent to the Gulf Coast to build houses in areas affected by hurricane Katrina. Through Nov. 9, denim products – new, used, stained, ripped, any color – will be collected, with a goal of 2,700 items (nearly 100 more than last year). Details are available from Shawna Blair at 278.2741 or shblair@csufresno.edu.

E-waste collection on campus adds items for recycling
Major household appliances (stoves, air conditioners, refrigerators, etc.) have been added to the TV sets, computer and audio components, cell phones and the like that can be recycled through Fresno State’s e-waste collections, now called Community Universal Waste Collection Program. The first of the new academic year is 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in parking Lot S, near Bulldog Stadium. There is no charge for the new items, although there is a fee to drop off dry-cell batteries and fluorescent lighting. Click here for details.

Blood donations set record
The Sept. 11-13 blood drive attracted 718 faculty, staff and student donors to drawing centers established around campus by the Central California Blood Center, nearly doubling the greatest number of donations from previous Fresno State drives. The first blood drive on campus was in 1995. Renee Delport, special events and projects coordinator for the Office of Civic Engagement and Service-Learning, says, “The results of this drive were astounding and are a testament to the giving nature of the Fresno State community.” The next drive on campus will be Nov. 6-8, but people who wish to donate blood earlier should contact the Blood Center by calling 224.2900.
