Student musical compositions debut
The university’s music composition students showcase their new works in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission is $5 for faculty and staff and tickets are available from the box office by the east entrance to the Music Building (11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday and an hour before concert time) or online at www.csufresno.edu/music.

Jazz bands play annual holiday Concert
The Fresno State jazz bands, featuring many of the Department of Music’s top instrumental students, will bring holiday flair to their final concert of the semester. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the Concert Hall. Tickets at $5 are available at the Music Building Box Office or at www.csufresno.edu/music.

Chacon wins Hudson Prize for stories
Daniel Chacon, an alumnus and last year’s Distinguished Visiting Writer at Fresno State has won the 2007 Hudson Prize for “Unending Rooms,” a new collection of his stories. The work will be published by Black Lawrence Press in New York.

La Celestina‘La Celestina’ concludes semester theater schedule
“La Celestina,” the medieval classic by Fernando de Rojas about noble lovers and the sex, violence and corruption all around them, is the semester-ending University Theatre production, premiering at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the John Wright Theatre. Terry Miller (Theatre Arts) adapted and directs the tragicomedy. The other performances of “La Celestina” are Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9, and Dec. 11-15. Click here for details.

The Fresno State Symphonic Band presents its final performance of the fall semester under the direction of Timothy Todd Anderson at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Concert Hall. The month’s student and faculty musical offerings include “Winterreise” by Schubert (Saturday, Dec. 8), the President’s Quintet (Sunday, Dec. 9), Fresno State Symphony Orchestra under Thomas Loewenheim (Dec. 10), a guitar studio recital (Dec. 11) and the Fresno State Gospel Choir directed by Pamela Tate (Dec. 16).
