Klaus TenbergenInternational Coffee Hour plans tour of South Africa
Klaus Tenbergen (Food Science and Nutrition) will take participants at the next International Coffee Hour on “A Tour of South Africa” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in University Student Union Room 312-314. It will be the final International Coffee Hour of the semester. The program has been exploring global diversity on campus since 1993.

South Korea vocational assessment process discussed
The Department of Counseling, Special Education and the Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Counseling Program are sponsoring a lecture at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, by Dal Yob Lee, professor of vocational rehabilitation at Daegu University, South Korea. The topic will be “Vocational Assessment of People with Disabilities in South Korea.” The lecture is scheduled in the Education Building, Room 54.

Holiday celebration seeks toy donations
The Staff Assembly Executive Committee offers staff and faculty an opportunity to enjoy themselves and help the enjoyment of needy children from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the annual University Holiday Celebration. Toys for Tots representatives will be in attendance at the event, which will be held in the University Courtyard Dining Hall (formerly called Residence Dining Hall).

James FarrarCafe Scientifique moves to Clovis and examines Santa, ’shrooms
“Mushrooms, Ecology and Santa Claus” is the topic when James Farrar (Plant Science) speaks at the Dec. 5 Central Valley Cafe Scientifique. The monthly forum connecting the community with university scientists in an informal setting will meet this time at 6:30 p.m. at DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria in downtown Clovis. Dog Days has two December dates
Dog Days new-student orientations for the spring 2008 semester will be held on campus Thursday, December 6, and Dec. 14. The program helps new-to-campus students learn about opportunities and allows them to complete some of the paperwork to help make their transition to Fresno State as smooth as possible. ‘Bulldog Book’ on sale at Red Friday
The ‘Bulldog Book,’ which offers thousands of dollars in free and money-saving offers from businesses on- and off-campus, will be available for $15 during the Red Friday festivities 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the USU Atrium. Regular price for faculty and staff is $20. Checks, credit card and cash will be accepted and there is no limit on the number of books purchased.

Middle East studies expert will speak
Jonathan Friedlander, assistant director and outreach director of the UCLA Center for Middle Eastern studies, will speak at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the Alice Peters Auditorium. Friedlander’s lecture, “A Portrait of Middle Eastern Americans,” is sponsored by the Middle East Studies Project, an initiative of the College of Arts and Humanities to establish Middle East Studies on the Fresno State campus.

Dobbs special education honors will be presented Dec. 13
Six central San Joaquin Valley special education professionals will be honored and one will be presented the 2007 Carolyn Dobbs Special Education Teacher of the Year Award at a banquet at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 in the University Courtyard Dining Hall. The annual Dobbs Award was created in 2005 by the Kremen School of Education and Human Development to honor alumna Carolyn Dobbs, who dedicated her professional life to the advancement of special education for children, before retiring. San Joaquin Review deadline approaching
Dec. 21 is the deadline to submit manuscripts of stories and poems for possible inclusion in the spring 2008 edition of the San Joaquin Review. The publication publishes work of local writers and poets. Art, photography and drawings also are encouraged. SnowfestSnowfest scheduled for Feb. 9 at Sierra Summit
Feb. 9 is the date and Sierra Summit Ski Resort at Huntington Lake is the place for the annual Snowfest, which provides Fresno State staffers and their families and friends a day of winter fun. “Build a snowman, ski, snowboard and win fabulous prizes,” said Angel Langridge one of the organizers.
