Alumni make gifts to College of Engineering
Two Fresno businessmen have committed $130,000 apiece to the College of Engineering. James M. Boone, president and CEO of New England Sheet Metal Works, and Robert M. Patton, president of Patton Air Conditioning, have each made $85,000 commitments to the college’s new endowment. The gifts will go toward strategic initiatives that include recruiting and retaining students, enhancing faculty salaries, and sponsoring research and development. Both men are Fresno State alumni. Each man also will give the college’s new Community Partners Program $45,000, payable over three years. Those funds also will benefit college initiatives.
Kremen School presents Carolyn Dobbs award in special education
Laurie Hoke, a Fresno County educator, was awarded the third annual Carolyn Dobbs Special Education Teacher of the Year Award by the Kremen School of Education and Human Development to recognize the work of special education professionals. The award was created in 2005 by the Kremen School, to honoring alumna Carolyn Dobbs, who dedicated her professional life to the advancement of special education for children. Click here for details.
Fresno State among five campuses to receive philanthropy-encouraging gift
The Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund and Campus Compact launched Students4Giving® to inspire young people to get more involved with philanthropy. Fresno State is one of five academic institutions participating in a program in which students will learn about philanthropy by supervising a $15,000 donor-advised fund to be used for future grant recommendations within their communities.
