Jefferson Beavers’ (Mass Communication and Journalism) essay, "A Collection of Things," has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize by the editors of In The Grove. Small-press publishers of short-form literature nominate up to six works apiece for the annual Pushcart Prizes.
Angelica Carpenter (Arne Nixon Center/Madden Library) was one of seven authors featured on the California Readers Web site, which connects California authors and artists with students and teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Carpenter’s efforts as founding curator and the expansion of the Arne Nixon Center were the subject of an article in Interrobang, the online newsletter of the Children’s Literature Network. Betsy A. Hays (Mass Communication and Journalism) presented a paper at the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The paper, “Using the Radiant Model to Bring Entrepreneurship Education to Public Relations Curriculum: Introducing the Public Relations Entrepreneurship Course,” was co-authored by graduate student Faith Sidlow.
Matthew Jendian (Sociology) called to order his first meeting as chair of the American Humanics Campus Directors Association during the annual American Humanics Management Institute in Kansas City, Mo. Jendian, who also serves on the American Humanics National Board of Directors with President John Welty, led a delegation of 17 Fresno State students and two alumni who attended. Dan Nadaner (Art and Design) published an article, "Teaching Perception Through Video Art," in the January 2008 issue of Art Education. Susan Rodriguez and Roy Thornton (Viticulture and Enology) published “Use of flow cytometry with fluorescent antibodies in real-time monitoring of simultaneously inoculated alcoholic-malolactic fermentation of Chardonnay” in the Society for Applied Microbiology’s Letters in Applied Microbiology 46 (2008). It’s the first study of its kind and offers a new approach to investigating microbial interactions in wine fermentations.
William Skuban (History) presented his book, “Lines in the Sand,” at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Washington, D.C. Skuban’s presentation was made at a panel dedicated to new books on Latin American frontiers and borderlands.
