Bulldogs celebrate football successes
President Welty presented a Humanitarian Bowl Game Ball to Mayor Alan Autry on the steps of Fresno City Hall at a rally on Bulldog Football Day, declared by the mayor Jan. 30. Coach Pat Hill and football team members, the Bulldog Marching Band and spirit squad were cheered by loyal fans for winning the New Year’s Eve bowl game in Boise, Idaho, and a successful season. The team signed autographs after the presentations during the noontime event.

35 student-athletes win Academic All-WAC honors
Thirty-five Fresno State student-athletes who compete in men’s and women’s cross country, football, soccer and volleyball received 2007 Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honors for maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA and competing in at least half the team’s contests. The 16 football players on the list is a record for coach Pat Hill and topped all other WAC football teams. Click here for details.

Softball opens at home Feb. 9 against Pacific
The 2007 WAC champion softball team will open its 2008 season at 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at Bulldog Diamond with a doubleheader against University of Pacific. Fresno State softball this season will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the NCAA Championship with a reunion of the 1998 team March 9 at which the former players will be recognized and sign autographs. ESPN Radio plans 39 softball broadcasts
ESPN Radio will air a record 39 Fresno State softball games this season – six on ESPN 1430 and 33 on 790 ESPN (The Deuce). Two of ESPN's local voices, Guy Haberman and Paul Swearengin will call the action at 31 home games and eight road games. Included in the broadcast schedule is coverage of three tournaments. Baseball home opener is Feb. 22 vs. UC Davis
The home opener for the back-to-back WAC Champion Bulldog baseball team is at 6:05 p.m. Feb. 22 against UC Davis. The Aggies will be in town throughout the weekend for a four-game series at Beiden Field. Tickets are on sale online at www.gobulldogs.com.

Bulldog baseball again on KMJ
KMJ, AM 580, will broadcast 36 Bulldog baseball games, beginning with the season home opener Feb. 22. KMJ has broadcast Fresno State sports for more than 35 years and is the flagship station for football and men’s basketball. Click here for schedule.
 
Men’s basketball home for four games in February
It’s Monday Madness at the Save Mart Center on Feb. 4, when the men’s basketball team takes on Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. All seats in the upper bowl will be buy-one, get-one-free special at the box office. Mutts in Motion will be the halftime entertainment. Also on the home schedule are games against Louisiana Tech (Feb. 7) and Hawai’i (Feb. 20) and an ESPN Bracketbuster (Feb. 23).

Women’s basketball plans ‘Think Pink’ for Valentine’s Day
The Fresno State women’s basketball team plays at home twice during the month – Feb. 10 against Utah State (at 2 p.m.) and Feb. 14 vs. Idaho (7 p.m.). The Valentine’s Day game will be “Think Pink Night,” promoting breast cancer awareness. A dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the regional affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “Think Pink Night” t-shirts are on sale at The Bulldog Shop. There’s also a special package for admission to the Bulldog game and to the Fresno Falcons’ “Pink at the Rink II” promotion. Click here for details.

Bulldog basketball on TV in February
The Bulldog Sports Network will air two Fresno State conference games during February and one women’s basketball game will be on Comcast cable’s Channel 14 this month. KFRE CW59 will broadcast the men’s games at Idaho (10 p.m. Feb. 14) and Boise State (7 p.m. Feb. 16). Comcast will cover the women’s game against Idaho on Feb. 14.

Men’s tennis offers six home matches
The Fresno State men’s tennis team will be busy in the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center on campus. The Bulldogs host Hawai’i (Feb. 8), Oregon (Feb. 10), Santa Clara (Feb. 16), Nevada (Feb. 17), Nebraska (Feb. 22) and Boise State (Feb. 24). Admission is free to all matches. Click here for details.

Golf teams swing into action
The Fresno State golf teams swing into spring action this month. The women's team hosts 15 teams for the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational at Copper River Country Club near Friant on February 25-26. Admission is free. The men's golf team opens the season at the CSU San Marcos Cougar Invitational on Feb. 11-12.

Athletics Finances Commission recommends changes
The President’s Commission on Athletics Finances recommends several changes in structure and procedures designed to promote a healthy financial climate for Fresno State athletics in the future. The commission was created after President Welty served on an NCAA committee studying strategies to promote better integration of athletics into university operations nationwide. Two women’s sports added for 2008-09
Fresno State plans to add women's swimming/diving and lacrosse teams to its intercollegiate athletics roster for the 2008-09 academic year. Adding the two sports is continuation of the university’s efforts to abide by Title IX gender equity requirements. Click here for details.

Glenn Carlson established bowling at Fresno State
Glenn Carlson (Auxiliary Corporations), who retired after 33 years at Fresno State, died Jan. 27. He is best remembered for establishing a bowling team on campus in 1970 and continuing to coach it even after his retirement. Graveside services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Kingsburg Cemetery, followed by a reception at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kingsburg (1800 Sierra St.).
