New associate provost selected
Ellen Junn will become associate provost at Fresno State, effective this summer. She is associate dean of the College of Health and Human Development at California State University, Fullerton, where she also is a professor of child and adolescent studies. Junn has spent 17 years at the university, where she has held numerous academic and administrative positions and has been a longtime member of the Academic Senate. Click here for details.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month features three events
The Violence Prevention Project plans three events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, beginning with “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” The event is a march that starts at 5 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Free Speech area and ends at Bulldog Diamond in time for first pitch of the 6 p.m. softball game against Nevada. It’s part of Domestic Violence Awareness Night. Also on the schedule are “Denim Day,” a violence prevention project (11 a.m. April 23, University Student Union) and “Shine the Light on Sexual Violence,” a march and speeches (7 p.m. April 24, Free Speech Area). Saroyan symposium scheduled April 5
The university’s Armenian Studies Program and the community’s William Saroyan Society will present a symposium on campus at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of author William Saroyan. Scholars from colleges as distant as India will participate in the event in the Alice Peters Auditorium. There is no admission charge. For details, call 278.2669.
Two Fresno State advertising initiatives win awards
The Fresno Advertising Federation recognized the “I am Fresno State!” project and the university’s "Powering the New California" ads running Mondays in The Fresno Bee at the 29th annual Central California ADDY Awards. A gold award went to “I am Fresno State,” which included a student-video component and was the idea of Peter Robertson (Development). A silver award went to the newspaper ad campaign, led by Jill Wagner, Andy Faught and Todd Graves (University Communications). Click here for details.
Grad student recognition scheduled April 21-25
April 21-25 marks Graduate Student Recognition Week, when the campus community is encouraged to acknowledge the contributions of the university's grad students with receptions, colloquia and other events. The Division of Graduate Studies is urging participation from all departments with graduate programs. The week’s highlight will be the Research Expo and Reception from 4 to 6 p.m. April 23 in the University Courtyard Dining Hall. Career development events for students
Career Services plans two career development events for students this month. The Dining Success Dinner is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. April 9 in the Vintage Room. This event will teach students how to impress a potential employer during a meal or special event. The Life After College Conference — covering topics such as “Eating out, Eating Right” and “Love Your Money” — is scheduled April 11 in the Satellite Student Union. Click here for details.

“Global Migration: Transnationalism and Borders in the 21st Century” will be the topic of the next Cross Cultural Lecture Series presentation at 6 p.m. April 10 in University Center, Room 202. Kris Clarke (Social Work) will be the presenter. On April 24, Kelley Campos-McCoy (Mass Communication/Journalism) will speak about “News Coverage as it Relates to Race.” The lectures are free.
