Mediator Mentors program wins national recognition
The Corporation for National and Community Service honored Fresno State at the American Council on Education annual conference with a Special Achievement Award as part of the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Fresno State was one of two minority-serving institutions singled out for special achievement. The award cited the innovative Mediator Mentors Program through which future teachers, counselors, social workers and school psychologists help develop conflict resolution skills in regional elementary and middle school children. College-student tutors sought to help high schoolers in English
Reading and Beyond’s Upward Bound program is seeking paid tutors on a year-round and summer basis. The jobs are in the Central Unified School District west of Fresno.  Faculty and staff are encouraged to direct junior and senior students who want to help at-risk high school students improve English skills to apply for the positions. New name, same services for Learning Center
The Learning Resource Center is now the Learning Center. It still offers tutoring in writing, math, sciences, languages, and business, Academic Success Workshops, Supplemental Instruction, computer lab, and study space services. Click here for details.

Mass Communications Department promotes service
The advanced public relations students in the Department of Mass Communications and Journalism are conducting a campaign titled, "What Impact Will You Make?" The campaign will promote the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning with several activities in April.
