Summer schedule returns May 19
Summer hours return after Commencement. Effective from May 19 to Aug. 15, official business hours at Fresno State will be 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the lunch period from noon to 12:30 p.m. The hours help the campus save energy, part of its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
Library on the move
With the Madden Library expansion project nearing its final stages, library services will spread out to several locations across the campus beginning May 19 to accommodate the construction project. Some library services will be available by appointment only. The library is on schedule to be finished by year's end. Up-to-date information is available online. Click here for details.
Fresno State team wins regional HR Games title
Three Craig School of Business students teamed to defeat two-time defending champion CSU Stanislaus at the Pacific West Regional Human Resource Management Games, avenging a semifinal defeat for another Fresno State team. Trisha Pfister, Suzy Kazaryan and Erik Holland won scholarship money and a trip to the national conference in late June to be honored as one of the top five HR Games teams in the country. Maddy Institute seeks Intern Scholar applicants
The Kenneth L. Maddy Institute is urging faculty and staff to alert students that applications are being accepted for the fall 2008 Intern Scholar Program, which places students in the offices of federal or state representatives in the Fresno/Clovis area. Interns are awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The application deadline is Sept. 5. Click here for details.
University wins award for WET Center's impact
Fresno State won a Gold Award for the community impact of its Water and Energy Technology (WET) Center. The honor came as part of the Business Journal's Central California Real Estate Awards, recognizing the university's partnership with the Central Valley Business Incubator in developing new businesses in the water and clean energy sectors.
Engineering's construction program accreditation renewed
The American Council for Construction Education has renewed for six years its accreditation of the construction management program in the College of Engineering. The program enrolls 250 students and is home to the Center for Construction Excellence.
Governors Association looks at Professional Science Master's
The National Governors Association will explore the role of the Professional Science Master's (PSM) Degree in meeting workforce needs during the assocaition's academy conference June 2-3 in Sacramento. Fresno State and the entire CSU System are prominently featured at the Academy, said Shirley Kovacs (Biology), the founding director of the unviersity's PSM degree in biotechnology. Roundabouts are new on reopened Chestnut Avenue
Borrowing from other nations - and a growing number of cities in the United States - newly reopened Chestnut Avenue now has two roundabouts (at Barstow Avenue and Bulldog Lane). Some temporary lane controls will be in effect until additional work is completed at the intersections of Chestnut with Bullard and Shaw avenues. Kremen School co-hosts conference on educational equality
The Kremen School of Education, California Reading and Literature Project, San Joaquin Valley Writing project, Associated Students Inc. and Teachers for Social Justice hosted the third annual César Chávez Education Conference. Veterinary medicine is summer camp focus
A Summer Vet Camp for middle school pupils to to explore veterinary medicine is one Fresno State's summer camp programs this year. Other academic camps will be devoted to science and innovation, while athletic camps will focus on football, soccer and basketball. Camps will be held on campus beginning in June.
