Concert builds awareness of campus community service
Students in the MCJ 159 "PR Case and Campaigns" class staged a "Rock the Richter" concert on campus April 25 to raise awareness about the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning. The center is the main connection between students and community service. The concert project, overseen by Betsy Hays (Mass Communications and Journalism), involved students in a publicity campaign that included media alerts, press releases, T-shirts, posters and event planning. Several hundred people attended the concert, hearing a parade of bands and visiting tents to get information about community service opportunities as the campus moves toward a goal of 1 million hours of service each year by 2011.

Conference will help people learn nonprofit leadership

Peer mediation programs get boost from baseball

On May 20, it's Peer Mediation Appreciation Day for elementary and middle school mediators trained by Fresno State students in the Mediator Mentors Project. The program also is partnering with the Fresno Grizzlies to honor peer mediators from 50 schools during a baseball game May 18 at Chukchansi Park in downtown Fresno. Tickets to the game are $10 - half of which goes to support peer mediation programs at Fresno State. To purchase tickets, call 278.0249.
