Upcoming musical events
The Wind Orchestra conducted Dr. Gary P. Gilroy performs on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Admission is $6 general, $5 faculty/staff/seniors/students. Gilroy is an ASCAP Award-winning composer. His compositions have been featured at the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C., the International Trombone Festival in New Orleans, and on several occasions at the International Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago.

    Markus Groh

    Markus Groh, known as Germany’s leading pianist of his generation, performs Friday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Admission is $18 general; Admission is $12 seniors, $5 students. Reservations are encouraged.
  • Jazz Composers Orchestra opens its fifth year in existence with a concert of original and inventive arrangements on Monday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Admission is $8 general, $5 faculty/staff/seniors/students.
  • Fresno State Symphony Orchestra performs Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Admission is $6 general, $5 faculty/staff/seniors/students.
  • Fresno State Wind Orchestra in Concert with Clovis North High School perform in a special off-campus event on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall at Clovis North High School Campus. Contact (559) 327-5000 for more information.
  • An Evening with Julie Spencer and Gernot Blume, percussion, is offered on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission is $10 general, $8 faculty/staff/seniors, $6 students.
  • The Symphonic Band performs on Monday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Admission is $6 general, $5 faculty/staff/seniors/students.
  • The Fresno State Hornists in Recital perform a mix of solo and ensemble works ranging from Baroque to Contemporary film music on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission is free; seating is limited.
  • The Fresno State Jazz Bands "A" and "B" perform in concert. Bring your children in costume (or yourself) on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Admission is $7 general, $5 faculty/staff/seniors/students.

CineCulture Club schedule
Fresno State’s CineCulture Club opens its October schedule of films at 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 3, with "Romero." CineCulture’s schedule for October includes "Filmworks" on Oct. 10, Dr. Juan Cole and “The Iraq Crisis and the Next Administration”" on Oct. 17, "The People’s Advocate" on Oct. 24 and "Filipino Americans" on Oct. 31. Films are screened exclusively by CineCulture in McLane 121 feature discussions after the presentations. There is no admission charge. College of Arts and Humanities lecture series begins
The College of Arts and Humanities 2008-09 lecture series includes “A Story Teller Recounts: The Journey from Fresno State to the Oscars” by Brad Lewis, a 1980 graduate of Fresno State’s theatre program. Lewis produced Disney-Pixar’s “Ratatouille” in 2007 for which he won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy. He will speak Oct. 9. Also coming up is “Film’s Digital Future” by William Feightner, a 1971 graduate. He is the executive vice president and technical director for EFILM in Hollywood, where he directs the research and development team. EFILM operates one of the world’s most advanced digital laboratories. Feightner’s lecture is Oct. 30.


Richard GlazierKeyboard Concerts series features pianist Glazier

The Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concert Series presents pianist Richard Glazier performing Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Richard Glazier is a master storyteller whose charming, insightful narration is the perfect accompaniment to his brilliant piano performances. He will perform rare arrangements of the great Gershwin songs, and the complete solo piano version of Rhapsody in Blue. Tickets for the concert are $18 general, $12 seniors and $5 for students.
