Community Chorus celebrates 50 years

The Fresno Community Chorus will open its Golden Anniversary season with a double concert on Nov. 5 and 6 in the Fresno State Concert Hall.

The 100-plus-member chorus, under the direction of associate music professor Dr. Anna Hamre, has performed for Valley audiences since 1955.

This year’s Fall Concert will feature the stirring music of composers Gabriel Fauré and Francis Poulenc. Faurés Requiem, Op. 48, will be highlighted by solos by Jasmine Swalef, soprano, and Jeffrey Burgstahler baritone. “Gloria” by Polulenc, will feature soloist Sherah Moore, soprano. The chorus will have orchestral accompaniment for the November program.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6.  Tickets are $15 general admission and $8 students. They are available by calling at the university Music Department office, 278-2654. Seating is limited.
