Group seeks donations for First Book project

Most of us grew up with a favorite children’s book.  For some of us that favorite book was “Goodnight Moon,” “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” or a book by Dr. Seuss.

It is hard to fathom that right here in the Fresno area there are children who have never had a book of their own.

In an effort to provide the gift of literacy to these children this holiday season, the office of Civic Engagement and Service-Learning is working with First Book, a national nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books.

We are asking members of the University Community to make a tax-deductible donation that will be used to purchase books for children in our community. The books will be purchased through the First Book Marketplace, which allows nonprofit organizations registered in the United States to purchase new books at a reduced cost for the children they serve. Donations of cash or checks are being accepted and you will be mailed a receipt for your donation.  Make your check payable to First Book Fresno.

Please send donations to: The Office of Civic Engagement and Service-Learning,
Attention: First Book Gift Project, M/S SB120.
